The little girl in this painting evokes memories of those simple, safe childhood days that were filled with wonder and where a walk out to heathlands or meadows was filled with bugs and butterflies. The dress was painted from recall of a favourite of mine as a small girl.
The text came from a lesser-known track by The Carpenters that I heard whilst playing Mum’s old CDs found as we cleared the old family home. Poignant times and the words stayed with me. The message behind the painting is, of course, a serious one: that we must pause to protect the small things—the little creatures, the young—and consider how we shape their ongoing respect and care for our vibrant, interconnected world.
