Henry - a handsome hedgehog. I have long wanted to focus in on British wildlife - especially the species so common in childhood that we see so infrequently now. Living on the edge of a rural setting in a small village, we do see them and feed ‘our’ hedgehog each evening. In years past I have rescued poorly hedgehogs and hoglets and taken them to the hedgehog hospital in our village where volunteers do constant sterling work to save and rehabilitate this species - so key to the balance of our natural ecosystems.
A group of hedgehogs is called a ‘prickle’. Other colloquial or archaic names for them include ‘urchin, furze-pig and hedgepig’, the latter two due to their rather noisy eating habits! Hedgehogs eat mainly beetles along with worms and caterpillars and will travel over a mile each night to find food and shelter.
This print would make a lovely wildlife lovers gift and would sit well in any reception room; the brown tones and dark frame lift compliment natural décor.
