Horseshoe Bat - Oil Painting on Canvas, edges painted - 10 x 8 "

£120.00

I am an avid bat fan and member of my local bat group. These much maligned creatures are pivotal to our ecosystems and maintaining a balance for people to manage crops and comfort. Imagine the biting bugs if we lost our bats. I would love to paint more species - that is the intention. This one would look great on an office or study wall for a fellow bat appreciator.

Now confined to the south west England and South Wales, the horseshoe bat is named after distinct nostril lobes (hard to paint I have to say!) which it uses to help focus sound.
This species needs woodland with open ground or pasture nearby and typically feeds on larger beetles and moths within around 6m of the ground.
The greater horseshoe bat is one of the UKs rarest mammals due largely to the destruction of old buildings used for roosting, the interference with caves used for hibernation and agricultural practices which have impacted dung beetle numbers - a main food source of this species.
