This is an A5 print in mount and framed to A4 size plus frame
The leopard cub, poised and aware of the watcher, well camouflaged on a rocky outcrop and awaiting the return of her mother.
The original oil painting was inspired after watching a wildlife documentary that focussed on camouflage. By this time I had painted several tigers, the leopards coat was an entirely different challenge with the rosette spots to capture realistically and I took some time to decided on a rocky outcrop for the background as these cats are fantastically well camouflaged in most environments including grasses, trees and light-dappled undergrowth.
The leopard (Panthera pardus) is the smallest of the big cats and known for its adaptability and masterful strength climbing trees. Incredibly powerful and successful nocturnal hunters, a leopard is capable of taking prey three to four times its own body weight. Of course this cub has yet to reach maturity and hunt for itself!
Leopards are on the IUCN red list and face a range of threats including loss and fragmentation of habitat, poaching and of course human conflict as our populations spread.
This framed print would work well in any room; the brown tones and dark frame compliment any natural décor.
