Joy & Maisie - After the Walk; inspired by a chance encounter. Print in mount

£35.00

This is an A5 print in mount ready for an A4 frame.

Maisie (an older golden retriever) rests in the backseat of her person’s car. After a long walk with owner Joy, she flumps down with her head resting on the back seat parcel shelf space of the green open top vintage car.

The inspiration for this painting was quite literally put in front of my eyes - a real gift! We queued in traffic behind a smart green Triumph where a large, mature retriever dog rested exactly as depicted here. I took a few snapshots (I was a passenger) and the gentleman driver of the car was chuckling throughout and clearly aware his dog was quite the picture to us.

To create more interest for a painting, I extrapolated to feature the full rear view of the car and painted the background to give a sense of motion. Painting a vehicle is a complete departure for me; angular and manmade; it was complex and unforgiving versus my usual natural landscapes and a healthy challenge.

The greens, the gently resting retriever dog and the vintage Triumph make this print a thoughtful purchase for any dog or vintage car lover with an appreciation of how our pets integrate with us and our mechanised lifestyle.
