The Story Behind the Fox Paintings
What artist could fail to be inspired by such an iconic species? We rarely see foxes now, though used to if we were out in the evenings. I miss that sudden flash of the russet-red or deep orange coat and the proud sweep of the bushy brush tail! One unexpected encounter happened during a lunchtime stroll away from the day-job office based on a busy hospital site. A couple of metres from me, and unnoticed by other people hurrying along the path, a fox slinked quietly through the rough scrub and bushes. I stopped to watch and found myself pacing alongside him. Our eyes met; he seemed completely at ease, and I was amazed nobody else spotted him. Eventually he turned and trotted out of sight, and only then did I realise I was holding my breath. What a privilege. Their naturally wily nature intrigues me.
The Red Fox - Vulpes vulpes is Britain’s sole wild dog. They have no natural predators in UK and a stable population despite large numbers being lost every year; killed by vehicles, farmers and gamekeepers.
With these beautiful native creatures becoming scarcer and their crepuscular lifestyle making sightings mostly fleeting, this framed print is affordable and sized to fit into any home as a worthy talking point in any reception room. The russets, golden oranges and hints of yellow of the fur lift all neutral colour schemes and the dark frame accentuates the nose and eye detail.
